February 2010
Volunteer timeDon't forget your volunteer time and sign up ! We would love so much to have your time more than money. Shannon Abel once again is giving us another wonderful gift- of big copier-- which we will put in the back room. We need strong volunteers to help us move a few heavy things about and some others who are very good at organizing all of our storage items as soon as possible to make room for this donation!
Breaking News: ECDT has swept to the top in their first competition in jazz, lyrical and hip hop dances for both Alphs and Betas. We are all so proud of them. Congratualtions ECDT dancers and coaches, Miss Camille and Miss Sarah, with very special thanks to their awesome families who support them step by step and leaps and bounds!.
Name of the game for February has been SNOW and now WIND!
Classes were indeed canceled for snow! What a remarkable event we have now in common! I think we are all ready for Spring early, having had winter in enough quantity to be done with all that digging out. Heard that our dancers were wanting to get back to the floor and so was I! Now we have wind - so much better than snow. What will it be like in March?
Make up Classes
We will be holding regular classes throughout SSSPA Spring Break and the last week before recital to makeup for the snow cancellations. You are also welcome to do make ups on your own in other classes, anytime. Please let us know when you are coming if you prefer that method.

New Web Site
Please enjoy our new web site! I want to thank AIG’s Amanda Baker and Michael Lawerence for this beautiful grant package so well done and Morgan Abramson, our first designer, who also has been our web master for 3 years pro bono. Great job from all three of you with much appreciation and gratitude
New SSSPA Board Member
We have another new board member as an at-large member! Joining Cheryl Huston, we welcome Kathy Reiland to the SSSPA Board! If anyone is interested in what the SSSPA Board does and its responsibilities and board positions please let us know. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, organized in the State of Maryland and as such have a unique position, philosophy, and mission to do our work.
Sleeping Beauty Ballet
Rehearsals have re-started for our April Performance! We have a great cast from ages of 4 to 69. Presented first in 1890, this ballet has been considered by the public one of Tchaikovsky’s most favorite ballets. We are hoping for adult and teen Court Royals and evil henchmen-- all of whom will be regarded as doing invited guest appearances! Brothers would be great for the later.

Etiquette for Everyone with Kelly Frager
SSSPA's Manners workshop for young children on social skills was a great success. Miss Kelly was not only a great coach and teacher but so very pretty and kind as well. We will be holding another session in the Spring, this time focusing on pre-teen and teens on networking behavior, proper use of cell phones and social networking sites, and consequences of communication errors. The fee for the two 1/2 day sessions is $55. I can’t tell you how important I believe this to be. Being well connected to this group of young people, I know they do need outside guidance to really let what you are telling them all along to be validated and acted upon. Manners count in person, on facebook, texting and with other cellular communication, utube, and, as the King in "The King and I " said etc, etc etc..
Let us know if you are interested.
ECDT TEAM
The Eight Count Dance Team members had an absolutely wonderful competition at the Opera Lyric House and Kids Artistic Review. Beta Team had 3rd higest over all team scores and Alpha has top seat as first in over all team scores! Look for tryout times for next Year in June. We will be adding a Pi team and a Mu Team ( tyro level for the first and tap for the second) for next year. And I think it is clear that we can also do ballet and possible pointe competition as well. I am very proud that they are so aware of their role as representatives of our school and their team spirit as they do their best work.
Hot Wheels Dance Team
Here is another special dance group with us this year in conjunction with the Regional Cerebral Palsy Association. This group of dancers are often wheel chair bound and need assistance but that does not stop them from dancing ballet, tap and hip hop. The smiles, the enthusiasm, the caring support they show for each other, is spell binding. Thank you Miss Bridgit and Miss Shelley for being there and dancing with us all!
Special Olympic Dance Team
We are on! This group of young women are inspriational and fantastic to be with. ECDT members who are with us on Saturdays stand with me that they make our day!
Musical Theater
We are very excited about this class and its stage kids. Miss Tiffany puts her all into this and asks no less of her students. This summer we will be having a very intense but great fun theater camp that we hope you will join! Learn drama from a professional who is also a performer and a mom.
